New Total!

Our new fundraising total is $367.44 !!

Hi this is the article I sent to the Glebe Report.  I've been doing this to show that adults aren't the only people that can make changes in the world.  I'm hoping that we can get enough money to buy 5 different families a cow.  That would be $1,000.  I will be accepting donations on my blog and at my home.  Here is the article

Be the Change you want to see in the World
By: Charlie Hood
I’m writing this for kids out there my age (10) or around that age. I'll start with what inspired me to start Kids can Kare.
There was a poster inside a school I went to and it said “Be the change you want to see in the world.”  Now I’m in kindergarten at the time and I don’t really understand it until grade 3 when I realized that I needed to stop waiting for other people to do something; that the people in developing countries couldn’t wait anymore, they needed help now and I wanted to be one to help them. If there’s one thing my teachers have taught me is that you’re never too young to do something.
When I was doing a project in school, I saw that 1 billion people in the world were starving and that 16 000 children like me die every day from starvation.  The only difference between me and those other kids is that I have resources and we have so many resources at the flick of a handle, like water and food that we take for granted. Imagine if we could give some of these resources to those in need, the deaths would be cut in half. So think next time before you eat your food; thank God (if you have a different religion thank your God) for the food that you were lucky enough to have. Think of those little things that turned huge.   Remember Terry Fox, he had a dream to raise money for cancer but instead of some people who just sat there waiting for an opportunity he went out and followed through with his dream.  He didn’t let cancer stop him; he didn’t let an amputated leg stop him either.  Now I realize that I have to stop waiting for an opportunity I need to make one. Just simple things like getting your friends together and doing a walk for money to donate to places in need.  If everyone chips in like that we can make the world a better place. So I have realized it’s time for me to be the change I want to see in the world.

Got Some Loose Change?

Today I brought in a donations box to my class to raise money to put through plan Canada and get a family a cow. No one knew about it then I told them it was to get family's cows, hens, pigs, etc. After a while one of my friends came and he donated $15.00 then another one of my friends donated a dollar and pretty soon everyone was taking all their loose change saying they would bring more tomorrow. I just couldn't believe it. At least 18 people started grabbing all their loose change to give. They didn't even know about the fundraiser before but they still gave their loose change to help stop world poverty. Then when I was walking home I realized that poster was right. I did have to be the be the change I wanted to see in the world.
